We are delighted to present this exquisite white embroidered Kushma, created with unique traditional Peruvian craftsmanship from the Shipibo family of Mama Rosa.
A Kushma, worn by healers in sacred ceremonies, embodies the rich spirituality of the Shipibo-Conibo people. This elegant, long garment combines comfort and grace, with a colour deeply symbolic – white. White signifies purity, wholeness, and perfection, providing a sense of peace and tranquillity.
The intricate embroidery translates the Shipibo cosmology into visual form. The embroidery forms sacred Icaros. An Icaro is a shamanic power song learned from an elder shaman or spirits. They are used to communicate with the spirits of the natural world, to heal the sick, and to actually provoke certain kinds of visual displays or visions in those intoxicated with ayahuasca. The most important of these songs are those learned from the spirits themselves or those received in the dream visions which can follow an ayahuasca session.
Each stitch a testament to Mama Rosa’s family’s talent and spiritual insight. By choosing this garment, you’re supporting their invaluable work, enabling the continuation of their vibrant cultural art form.
We express heartfelt gratitude to you for supporting this trade, for helping to sustain indigenous arts and culture. Thank you for making a difference.
