Noke Koî

Noke Koî are indigenous people of the Pano linguistic family who inhabit two territories of the Brazilian Amazon in the state of Acre in the north of Brazil. They are known as the first people. They are also referred to as the Guardians of Kambo for having a strong tradition in the use of this medicine, along with the other well-known traditional medicines of the forest.  

Divided into 6 clans, among which are the Varinawa (the people of the sun) and Kamanawa (the people of the jaguar), they are one of the few Brazilian indigenous groups that still maintain their entire population speaking the native language, the Noke Vana, which shows their remarkable strength in keeping the ancestral tradition. Maintaining the ancestral language has played a vital role in preserving their chants, activities, culture, history and spiritual knowledge.

In the Noke Koi history, the people were born from underneath the earth and with them, all of the forest medicines, the chants, the food and the culture were born.
