We are offering this beautiful and unique handmade Shipibo ashtray made by the Shipibo Association we support in Pucallpa. The association was founded by a wonderful Shipibo lady called Adelina, who started off with just 3 ladies working with her. She has now been able to support over 50 Shipibo women as a result of a demand for beautiful their work.

Adelina herself created this necklace, and many of the items in our store. 

The necklaces are made with seed beads and a Rosario seed fastener.

The items they make are always of high quality and completely unique. I am committed to giving more than a fair trade price for each item made, we never barter. This is a great way for us all to support the indigenous communities of the world whilst providing a way for tribes to hold onto their traditions

The Shipibo see and hear these geometric patterns during Ayahuasca ceremonies, and reproduce the designs on their clothing and paint them on their houses and boats. The Shipibo believe the patterns are healing on the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual levels.

Every design carries its own specific meaning. For example, to bring healing, wisdom, protection or to attract abundance.
These ‘artful prayers’ can be sung by the Shipibo because each design also functions as a musical score, called an ‘Icaro’.

The design element and the ‘Icaro’ operate cohesively to carry the power of the healing or blessing.
